Since 2010, the Maestro collection has been a testament to Raymond Weil’s mastery of Swiss watchmaking. There was the Amadeus collection in 1983, inspired by Mozart the Fidelio collection after Beethoven’s only opera as well as the Toccata, Maestro and Tango collections, among others, which are still available today. Of Music and Watchesįor years, the brand’s collections reflected Raymond Weil’s passion for music. It is now under the helm of the second- and third-generation family members, headed by Olivier Bernheim, Weil’s son-in-law, and his grandsons and Olivier’s sons, Elie and Pierre Bernheim. For more than 40 years, the company has remained to be solely family-owned. Later on, he decided to change the name to ‘Raymond Weil’, which is known until today. His watch company was first called Dinita, coined after the names of his daughters Diana and Anita. True enough, his watches appealed most to international luxury watch buyers who knew the value of high-quality yet affordable watches. His designs included both the traditional spring-powered and cog-and-gear mechanical watches and quartz watches. He first sold his designs from a foldout bridge table in a stall in Geneva. His vision was to create high-quality, well-designed, and affordable Swiss-made watches that everyone can enjoy. At age 50, during the time of the quartz crisis, Weil left his job and founded his namesake watch company, Raymond Weil Genève. His passion for watchmaking started in the 1940s in Geneva where he joined a watch company as a general manager. It was in 1976 when Raymond Weil decided to establish his own watch company. A Brief History of the Raymond Weil Watches Using the latest quartz technology, he was able to help uphold the Swiss watchmaking industry by incorporating Swiss classic designs and know-how in his Raymond Weil watches. Weil decided to put up his own company using a totally novel approach. While most of the Swiss watch brands were trying to survive the uncertainty of the quartz crisis or were slowly joining the quartz watches bandwagon, Raymond Weil - watchmaker and founder of his namesake brand - had another idea. However, amid the crisis, some watch brands also flourished. Some had to close down, while others had to sell their company just to be able to survive.
